De Plane, De Plane! No Really, I’m Not Kidding This Time

Update 1/4: Hmmm. Pom poms instead of palm leaves…a Lear jet instead of an ass…
- ESPN’s Pat Forde waxes judgemental on Saban’s change of mind (hey Pat, people “say” one thing and then do another all the time. Post-Clinton, is this even worth bringing up?)
- Congressional watchdogs up in arms (hey Congress, go ahead and investigate, but please check this guy out first).

What did I tell you?

Thou art the prophet.
Tarwater
Buwahahahaha!

You can always count on diehard Bama alum Tarwater for a good peal of evil laughter.

re Forde’s article. Surely you’re not surprised… He’s getting hammered in the press, and he should be. When you make public statements more than once saying “I won’t do this” and tell your owner you’re going to stay, then don’t, you’re going to get some heat.
In the end, he made the right decision (IMO), but he still lied (IMO). So, people will bring it up. As I mentioned before, I remember a lot of people bringing it up in Alabama 4 years ago when Fran did the same thing, so don’t be too shocked that other people are doing so now.
Kornheiser said yesterday on PTI that Saban will win a national championship at Alabama. I’m inclined to agree with him (which, if you saw my bowl picks, may be a bad thing). Nevertheless, I believe you do have that to look forward to. š

I know, I know, I don’t disagree with that, I’m just being rhetorical and stirring the pot a bit–righteous indignation on the part of sportswriters always deserves a good once over. I think Urban Meyer (who apparently made the same mistake once before) said it best: a simple “no comment” would have sufficed.

No argument there!!
Guys on local radio over here said yesterday they’re glad Arkansas gets to play them early in the season next year (as usual). I’m not sure that will help considering it’s on the road, but they were saying they believe by mid-season nobody in the SEC will want to play them, that Saban will make that big of a difference.

We’ve got the horses, all we need is a driver–and all indications are that Saban is one hard driver. I’m not sure if the Bama players are relieved or quaking in their cleats.
Saban’s old school ways (grab the face mask and scream) should go over well down here.

Alabama got what they wanted, so did Miami. Saban will be more successful than Shula was, but I do not see him winning even an SEC championship in Alabama. He won with LSU because of the talent they have year in and year out. Les Miles has won 11 games with them since he left.
Ed
Will they fire him after 4 years or less if he doesn’t make the BCS and/or championship? UA’s search for a coach was interesting discussion fodder around the Christmas dinner table.

I am just glad it is over. I like fresh starts (we have had a few too many at the capstone…but you know what I mean)
Roll Tide!

Kenny–No SEC title? Ever? Wow, that’s some serious prognostication. We shall see.
Ed–No. As long as he produces 8-4 or better and beats Auburn at least half the time, he won’t be fired. As far as BCS and SEC titles, I think that will happen eventually. NC? Who knows?
I know what you mean about dinner table fodder. My father-in-law and brothers-in-law were talking some pretty good trash when nobody seemed to want the job. Of course, now according to them, Bama paid too much and is the epitome of everything that is wrong with college athletics. Boy, you just can’t please some people!
Donna–Was that you I saw kissing Saban at the airport? š
Roll Tide right back atcha.
Donna
I have not quite reached that level of fanatacism yet!
But if he beats Auburn and Tennesse this year….I would smooch him!

Beware of Terry Saban though. I’m guessing she brooks no groupies.
