Camille’s Back

There is the endless drone of the mainstream press serving up bland portions of the same o’ same o’, and then there is Camille Paglia.

I have a confession: I dig a lot (but certainly not all) of her stuff. Yeah, I know, I know, she’s a gay-atheist-feminist with a fetish for homoeroticism, but nobody’s perfect, right? Still, apparently beholden to no one, she writes things that others are too wimpish to even think, and does so with a vim and verve that are a rare sight in today’s media landscape.

She’s taken some time off, but Camille’s back. And just in the nick of time to make things interesting.

    You know its funny — I’ve had the same thoughts about Paglia. As an unapologetic conservative, I certainly have some disagreements with her. But I like her plain-talking, common sense style. I like the fact that she refuses to bow down to the god of political correctness.

    And I really liked her line about Rosie O’Donnell!

    Camille is a Democrat who often finds herself at odds with her own party. She also has a very large libertarian streak which apparently appeals to many across a broad political spectrum.

    It’s refreshing to read someone who is well-schooled in art and literature offering up commentary on politics and current affairs. She makes some interesting and unique connections that I would have never thought of.

    I’ve heard of her, but I can’t say as I have. From her Wikipedia entry (click here), she sounds like she’s worth checking out.

    I have read some excerpts from some of Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s stuff (click here), though.
